Support Groups

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

We offer support and facilitation to this group who meet on the third Wednesday of the month from 11am until 1pm, in Your VOICE, 12 Clyde Square, Greenock. The group have discussed a variety of topics relating to OCD, BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder), Anorexia, Bulimia and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The group share stories and invite speakers to come along and explore therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. We will continue to offer support and facilitation to the group. The group plan to invite speakers from Welfare Rights, Community Mental Health Team and other organisations. The group would like more research carried out on Body Dysmorphic Disorder and posters made to ascertain if there are people in the community with this condition who would like to be part of a support group.

Buttercups, Daisies and Harvey

We began working with two people in the summer of 2009 to build a peer support group for people diagnosed with schizophrenia. We assisted with the design of a new poster which has been distributed in various locales throughout the community including; Libraries, SAMH, Community Mental Health Team, GP Surgeries, Short Stay Psychiatric Unit and our office. The group membership has grown and they meet on the first Tuesday of the month from 2pm until 4pm in Your VOICE, 12 Clyde Square, Greenock.

Bipolar Support Group

The Bipolar Group are user led. This group meet in the third Thursday of the month from 6.30pm until 8.30pm in Craigend Resource Centre, McLeod Street, Greenock. The group have plans for a small library, have organised themselves with an agenda and receive regular visits from Bipolar Scotland. Recently the group published their first newsletter, which was included in Community Care News and sent out to our Stakeholder Network.

To date the group have been involved in:

  • Consultation Document on Smoking Policy.
  • Stepwell Stress Management Programme.
  • Service User Research Conference.
  • Wellness Recovery Action Plan Training.
