Inverclyde Community Care Forum

Inverclyde Community Care Forum is an independent Voluntary Organisation set up in February 1992 following the introduction of the Community Care Act 1990.

On 1st April 2004 we became a Company Limited by Guarantee. Our work is directed by our board of directors which is composed of 17 representatives from community and voluntary organisations as well as local individuals with an interest. Collectively we influence and work with statutory bodies such as Inverclyde Council and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde .

The Inverclyde Community Care Forum has been in existence since February 1992 when representatives of a number of voluntary groups in Inverclyde were invited by the Social Work Department to set up a committee and form a community care forum for Inverclyde.

The committee was formed and includes representation from various groups throughout Inverclyde. We were brought together to set in place a group to speak for the vulnerable members in our community and to liaise with statutory bodies such as NHS Argyll & Clyde, Inverclyde Council and the Social Work Department on matters of Care in the Community.

We have a good rapport with the statutory bodies in Inverclyde which we have built up over the years. We also participate in the Scottish Community Care Forum meetings and take part in Networking Days when representatives of Community Care Forums within the Argyll & Clyde area get together to share and discuss mutual problems and ideas.

The objectives of Inverclyde Community Care Forum are to encourage local organisations to work together to promote community care principles and developments by means of:-

  • developing information services
  • supporting local initiatives on community care
  • monitoring existing services
  • identifying needs and encouraging the development of
  • services to meet these needs
  • engaging with the statutory agencies in the provision of care in the community

The Forum membership includes 226 voluntary/community groups, as well as over 500 individuals with an interest. Our forum is also is open to community, voluntary and non-statutory bodies providing services to the following client groups:-

  • Elderly people/people with dementia/palliative care
  • Mental health
  • Learning disability
  • Children & Young People with Special Needs
  • Physical disability/Sensory Impairment/Brain Injury
  • Addiction
  • HIV / Aids and other Blood Borne Viruses
  • Carers

As a result of seminars and meeting with other organisations it soon became clear that there was not enough information available about resources in the Inverclyde area. Accordingly, the committee decided to produce a RESOURCE DIRECTORY to provide information about organisations in the area and the services they offer to the community.

The Forum proposes to analyse the detailed information which has been collated on our database to identify shortfall in resources, thus enabling us to target future service developments where they are most needed. We also intend to foster good communications by means of regular information bulletins, conferences, seminars and through this website.
