Getting and Staying Active in Later Life - Activities for Older People in Inverclyde

The life of older people is changing. Inverclyde’s population along with the rest of the UK shows that people are living longer and enjoying a healthier older age. Evidence shows that older people’s health and well being increases when they get involved in peer support and stay active. As such older people are being encouraged to take greater responsibility of their health. We talked to over 1000 older people in Inverclyde and they told us that the following matters to them:

  •  Get to know new people.
  • Catching up with old friends.
  • Finding out more about their community.
  • Getting access to information.
  • Being part of their community.
  • Living in safe neighborhoods.
  • Living in their own home for as long as they can.
  • Having good health.
  • Transport.
  • Access to local facilities and activities, including tea dances, peer support groups and exercise.
  • Being treated with dignity and respect.
  • Being in control and having choice over their care when they need it.
