Relational Mentoring Service: Online Learning Opportunities for Families

Your Voice Inverclyde is sharing information about learning opportunities available through The Wise Group’s Relational Mentoring Service.

This service is delivered by The Wise Group on behalf of the Scottish Government and provides holistic, sustainable support for families with children. The support is designed to help families work towards their own goals, build confidence and access practical help where needed.

About the Relational Mentoring Service

Through Relational Mentoring, families can receive one-to-one support from a personal mentor. When a family is referred, their mentor will aim to call within 5 days, arrange a meeting and create a tailored action plan to address their individual needs.

The service can support families with:

  • Employability and progressing in work

  • Income maximisation

  • Mental health and wellbeing

  • Digital skills training

  • Energy advice and advocacy

  • Financial budgeting

Online Courses Available

Families supported through the Relational Mentoring Service may also be able to access online learning through The Digital College, which offers over 100 courses, accredited courses and qualifications.

The Digital College has been providing accessible online learning and official certifications since 2011, with a focus on helping learners build skills and boost career prospects. Their courses are designed to be flexible, mobile-friendly and accessible across different reading and learning abilities.

Course Areas Include

The course catalogue includes a wide range of learning options, such as:

  • Mental health and wellbeing

  • Stress awareness and management

  • Dealing with anxiety

  • Understanding depression

  • Employability

  • Essential IT skills

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Accessibility and Flexibility

The Digital College courses are designed to be easy to access and complete. Learners can study online using a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or computer. Courses include video tutorials, exam preparation and web-based assessments that can be completed from home.

The Digital College also offers subtitles across a range of courses to improve accessibility. Subtitle options include Ukrainian, Bengali, Farsi, Arabic, Dari, Polish and Romanian.
