The programme is a ‘transitions to work’ programme for 12 young people aged 18-29 years, who are Autistic and/or have a Learning Disability or ASN , and who want to go on to securing paid employment.

The programme provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability, and independent living skills. The young people or ‘Interns’ are offered 3 10-week work placements within the local NHS or Inverclyde Council, and study towards a 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 skills, fully supported by dedicated Job coaches, College Lecturer, and workplace mentors. YP do not attend the college environment.

The Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) has partnered with West College Scotland, Unity Enterprise, Inverclyde Council and NHS to bring an exciting new Supported Internship to young adults with a Learning Disability and/or young, autistic adults. This is an amazing opportunity for young people who want to gain independence and employment.

This is an opportunity to support those young people who face many barriers and who are excluded from the workforce and in reaching their potential. Currently only 5% of young people with learning disability are in long term paid employment compared to their nondisabled peers at 81%; Autistic people 22% ; those with Mental health issues 52%; Care Experienced young people and those involved in justice system have multiple complex barriers to access employment (NEET)
